Herman joined Freeport in July 2007, took a year off and now returns. He started playing drums at two!! Two!! He was taught by his older brother who Herman says is a better drummer than he is. Hard to believe. His school years were spent performing in the church. Following 3 years at Winston Salem State University he found himself still performing in both churches and various bands. This lead him to develope a feel left only for the few. Throw in his influences like Dave Weckl, Buddy Rich, and Dennis Chambers and you got "The Animal" as he is known!!
Plainly stated Herman is an amazing drummer. Why? It comes from his positive attitude, almost 30 years of playing, a real understanding of poly-rhythms, a deep conviction to be the best and the need to play. During a recent conversation before a show he said "During my daily practicing if I make a mistake I do 20 push-ups right there"!! That might help him stay focused!!
